The Most Iconic Fashion Items Of All Time

Clothing fads tend to breeze in and out just as a fair-weather friend. There are many visionary fashion icons such as Chanel, Dior, and Saint Laurent that have proven this to be true, time and time again. These timelessly elegant designers have found a way to not fall out of style.

Offering up a variety of iconic pieces including the Chanel three-piece, the YSL safari jacket, and the Burberry trench, to name a few, have remained quite steadfast in many a stylish woman’s closet. This is regardless of her age or her personal approach to fashion. The following designers have been very influential and offered up an iconic style for all.

Chanel Suit

From the LBD to a classic 2.55 flap bag, Coco Chanel has been responsible for a long list of styles and trends that transcend time. These designs are embraced by high fashion and even on high street.

Chanel suits, regardless of the form, even the quite recent Lager field incarnation, are one of Chanel’s famous iconic signatures.

One of their ‘les éléments éternels’ is the enduring piece worn by such fashion icons as Jacki O, today’s starlets, and Grace Kelly; even centuries from now, these pieces will stand the test of time.

Burberry Trench

This famous and coveted British brand has long been steeped in history as an outerwear company that was founded by none other than Thomas Burberry in the year 1856. This innovative young man is single handedly responsible for the patented weather-proof material we know as “gabardine”.

This designer line program was launched in 1998 with overwhelming success. Today, Burberry is famous for many designers and has been in vogue for over a decade. Designer extraordinaire Christopher Bailey is always refreshing and updating their approach.

The famous Burberry Trench has been worn by British officers during WWI and even later. It’s been modified a few times yet, it still remains completely recognizable.

Coco Bay states, “It matches with refinement and sophistication with everything and it’s practical. This gift of the fashion gods will never go out of fashion.”

Dior Ballet Skirt

After WWI, Christian Dior lowered hemlines and although many thought he was taking a step backward, he wasn’t.

What Chrisitan Dior knew was that modern women knew that there was a way to embrace their femininity without sacrificing style.

After all of the war sacrifices, fashion required a boost. Something that was more frivolous, with a cinched-in waist and volumes of skirting; this was christened the “New Look” of fashion and Christian Dior presented it as just such a fashion.

Today’s voluminous ballet skirt is far more likely to be paired with edgy leather jackets and a casual t-shirt over a fifties Bar jacket, however, the effect is still a floaty, fabulous skirt that screams feminine.

Ferragamo “Vara” Pumps

Recently,  Ferragamo celebrated their 35th anniversary of the patented ‘Vara’ pump.

Designed by company heiress Fiamma Ferragamo during the 60s, this round-toed pump offers a lower heel and is the most recognized shoe on the market today. Featuring a grosgrain ribbon and a gold buckle stamped with a family signature, it’s an iconic design.

This design received an inspirational update in 2007 when they launched a casual ballet flat option.

YSL Smoking Jacket

Yves Saint Laurent gave women empowerment via fashion more than any other designer in this lifetime.

This Paris based visionary designed the ‘Le Smoking Tuxedo’ and it was a momentous turning point in fashion history in 1966. This allowed women the option of being fashionable and macho all at the same time. It heralded an era wherein women could wear a dinner jacket for drinks and in the boardroom without sacrificing fashion.

This timeless design is of black wool and even velvet and has been re-imagined time and time again. Models, celebrities and even the glamorous socialites choose this fashion daily.
